Perceptions
“Our politics, relationships, sexuality, work ethic, etc is our spirituality expressed…and we express it based on how we perceive it.”- what I learned from Conversations with God
We start forming perceptions from the time we take our first breath. Our perceptions of our parents grow over time. Psychologists estimate that our personality is formed by the age of five. But as I’ve learned in my own journey and teaching others how to change their unconscious beliefs, the vast majority of that personality is based on how safe and loved we feel. We derive that feeling based mostly on our perception of our parents and/or caretakers.
Now first of all, it’s very important to understand that “perception” is not reality. In reality, each and every one of us living on this earth is a spiritual being having a human experience. If we all were consciously aware of our own Divinity and that of others, our world would be very different.
Wayne Dyer said that “our relationships with someone else isn’t in them…it’s in our mind.” So if we understand that everyone including us is “God in drag” and we accept that the difference between seeing others as that and how we do see them is our perception of them, then if we want to change our relationship with someone, we can start by changing our perception of them.
The way most of us have been programmed to think, we tend to focus on what we don’t like about someone far more than on what we like about them. We usually only focus on what we like about someone when they are doing or saying something that makes us feel good. But as we learn to master our thoughts and feelings, we learn that no matter what someone does or says, if we hold fast to the experience of them as a spiritual being, we can feel good regardless. They may not be conscious of it, but we can perceive them the way we choose.
This also holds true for how we perceive ourselves. We look back on our past, at what we have experienced and tend to believe that this is who we are. It is NOT who we are. It is what we have experienced based on our conscious or unconscious choices…which was based on what we perceived we were capable of being, doing or having.
We perceive that others respond to us based on who we are and this is also incorrect.
We are all Divine spiritual beings who are simply having a human experience that we are consciously / unconsciously creating. Another way to consider it is that we are experiencing the Divinity to the extent that we are allowing it. If the perception we have of ourselves tells us that we don’t deserve to have what we want, that we aren’t good enough, that we must be perfect to receive what we want…then we will not open to the energy that God is constantly sending us.
This is what I mean when I say that I’m “learning to flow.” I mean that I am letting go of my perceptions of myself and others to allow God’s energy to flow freely into my life creating my desired experiences.
What perceptions are you holding onto that prevent you from opening your connection to your spiritual self?
You have no limits other than those you create in your mind. Learn to let go of your negative perceptions and practice allowing all of the blessings God has waiting for you to simply flow through you.
God does all of the heavy lifting. You simply have to be willing to change and grow.
Namaste
